The General Assembly was very well conducted and significantly raised my level of optimism regarding the future of ENBIS. It is obvious that a tremendous amount of work has gone into getting our society into a very strong position to become much more effective in achieving our declared objectives in the future.

So many people have contributed to this success, but we should all join in congratulating Andrea and Massimo for their efforts and dedication.

Also, we should show our appreciation to Winfried and John for their enthusiasm and hard work in getting our web site into a position where we can all start to actively share information and interact more between conferences. There is a long way to go in terms of content and usability, but the foundations have been laid to enable further progress. That was not possible in the old web site. AND . . . it looks great!

Finally, and really above all, I was very encouraged to see the clear and open presentation of our accounts from 2007 to mid-2008 and, for the first time ever, the forecast of the budget up to the end of next year. Our treasurer, Anja Schleppe, has done a truly magnificent job and I hope that the membership will join me in recognising and appreciating everything that she has achieved despite the very difficult circumstances.Well done Anja!

hear hear - i fully concur with lance.

let's make ENBIS a model of how to get from good to great. with the great foundations laid out that alessandro, andrea, anja and winfried and john worked so hard to put in place, we can now go forward to do great things.

An excellent start to the new regime reported by Lance and read my me in grey-sky Manchester. Really sorry I can't be with you but the culprit is currently sunning herself in Mexico and the other culprit has a bad cough.

I am particularly cheered by the commitment to transparency that is so topical.  We do have a long way to go for content on the website but most of the functionality is there even if not completely finished.  There are some issues I know that will be discussed. May I add my thanks to the people at Zedcore who have managed to turn our sometimes chaotic specifications into a workable system.  The conference management in itself is quite a major system and we have tried to design it so that we can easily set up meetings with costings and billing etc. Our apologies to those who have suffered the teething problems - we hope that by the end of the conference, all will have been sorted out.

Please keep the posts coming - it makes me feel a little less lonely!

Thanks to all who came to the session. I meanwhile assembled the powerpoint presentation, the handout, and the data used during the presentation in a zip archive. If you would like to have it, send me a message.

Further news:

A 2-day course on RExcel is in preparation and will be given on 16/17 February in Vienna. If there is sufficient interest a 1-day pre or post conference workshop on this topic at Enbis9 might be possible.

Have a nice day and help others make good graphs.

Chris

I enjoyed your talk Christian, and I am sure that I was not alone in that.

I visited the software web repository that you recommended, but was unsure as to which of the files in that directory I should download, as it is just a list ofd files with no descriptions. What do you recommend?

After the ENBIS 8 Conference Author:Froydis Bjerke (at 2008/10/03 09:57)

Dear all, it was good to meet you again - in a well-organised conference in Athens.

To the organising committee: Please, could you make a participants' list, including names. affiliation, country and e-mail? That would be really useful. Thank you!

Looking forward to welcoming you all to Scandinavia next fall.
